Nikon Coolpix S6 review : Just before the start of the PMA 2006, Nikon introduced their new assortment of Coolpix digital cameras, among which the Nikon Coolpix S6. The Nikon S6 is the top model from the Coolpix S-series digital cameras, which started off with the Coolpix S1 model. Even then, this camera featured a stylish design, and was equipped with 5 Megapixel resolution, as well as with a 3x optical zoom. That is why, at first glance, it may seem there have not been all that many changes in the time-span between the introduction of the S1 and that of the Nikon Coolpix S6 digital camera; but don’t let this mislead you.
Nikon Coolpix S6 camera – 6 Megapixels
The smooth and rigid black housing accommodates a variety of innovative functions that help ensure the six Megapixel resolution is used to its highest and fullest effect. The user can view the result on a fabulous format LCD monitor, measuring an impressive 3 inch. Even with this large monitor, the camera still offers sufficient room to hold several buttons for the operation. A remarkable asset is the built-in Wi-Fi module, which enables the camera to support IEEE 802.11b/g LAN. After having gained years of experience in the professional DSLR market, Nikon have slowly but surely started to apply their skills and know-how to the consumer models. The Wi-Fi functionality allows you to send your images to a computer wirelessly, right after having captured them. In addition, the integration of this function permits wireless printing via the optional PD-10 wireless printer adapter.
Nikon Coolpix S6 – Image editing functions
Besides the six Megapixel resolution and the 3x internal optical ED Nikkor zoom, the camera offers a wide array of functionality. The investments and research efforts that Nikon have directed at intelligent software have enabled a variety of innovative image editing functions. The D-Lighting function, for instance, is able to improve underexposed images or photos with too much backlight by making a copy to which light and detail are added where necessary, whilst correctly exposed parts remain unaltered. In addition, Face-Priority AF detects faces of people, prompting the Nikon Coolpix S6 to focus on them, regardless of their position in the image. And to complete the picture: the red-eye correction ensures red eyes are a thing of the past, by correcting them automatically after having captured your image.
Nikon S6 – Coolstation MV-15 camera dock
The Nikon Coolpix S6 is standard delivered with the COOLSTATION MV-15. This handy dock is able to charge the battery automatically whilst it is still in the camera, simply by placing the camera onto the dock. The user also has the option to connect the dock to a television, to display the 6 Megapixel still images, or the VGA video clips, on a large format screen.
